Intended Audience: Faculty and Staff
Summary
Printer Logic allows you to easily install and manage printers without requiring IT intervention. This tool connects you to networked printers that are approved for use on campus. For security reasons, PVAMU does not allow Wi-Fi printer connections, so it’s important to use Printer Logic for setting up your devices.
Problem
Faculty and staff may occasionally need to add a new printer but are unsure how to access it securely. For example, if you move offices or your department acquires a new printer, you cannot simply connect via Wi-Fi. Instead, you must use the Printer Logic Client to properly install the device. This guide provides the steps needed to complete the process.
Solution
By using the Printer Logic Client, you can browse available printers by building and department, then install the correct printer directly to your computer. Once the extension is enabled in Chrome (or another supported browser), you’ll also have access to self-service printer installation at any time.
Steps
Installing the Printer Logic Client
Before you can install a printer, you must access the Printer Logic Client from your system tray.
-
Locate the System Tray in the lower right corner of your desktop screen.
-
Click the Printer Logic Client icon to open it.
-
Once the web page opens, navigate the left-hand pane to find your building.
-
Expand the building folder, select your department, and locate the correct printer.
-
Double-click the printer you need to install.
-
When prompted, click Yes to complete the installation.
At this point, your printer will be available on your computer.
Enabling the Printer Logic Plugin in Google Chrome
To ensure full functionality, you must enable the Printer Logic plugin in your Chrome browser.
-
Open Google Chrome and copy/paste the following link into the address bar: https://pvamu.printercloud.com
-
Click Install Extension.
-
Select Add to Chrome.
-
Confirm by clicking Add or Enable Extension when prompted.
💡 Note: You may need to manually enable the extension. The pull feature works through browser extensions and is supported in Chrome, Firefox, and Edge.
Additional Notes
-
Some staff may utilize standalone printers in their workspace. These are hard-wired devices only, as PVAMU policy prohibits printers connected via Wi-Fi.
-
Once the extension is enabled, you can self-service printer installations anytime without waiting for IT.
