Intended Audience: Students, Faculty, Advisors

Summary

Degree Works is a web-based advising tool designed to help Prairie View A&M University students and advisors track academic progress toward degree completion. It combines PVAMU’s degree requirements with a student’s completed coursework into an easy-to-read worksheet. While Degree Works is a valuable planning and advising resource, it is not a substitute for official transcripts or academic advising appointments.

Problem

Students and advisors often need a clear way to track degree progress and confirm what courses remain for completion. Without a consolidated view, it can be difficult to determine requirements, prerequisites, or progress toward graduation.

Solution

Degree Works simplifies academic planning by providing a worksheet view of completed and pending requirements. It supports academic advising and helps students make informed decisions about courses, but it is not an official transcript nor a confirmation of graduation eligibility. Students should always consult their advisor for official guidance.

Steps

Degree Works is designed for students to review their academic progress and for advisors to guide students during planning sessions. Both groups will use the same system, but with slightly different purposes—students for self-monitoring and advisors for structured guidance.

To access Degree Works, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to PantherTracks
Go to the PVAMU PantherTracks portal and log in with your PVAMU credentials.

  2. Navigate to Degree Works
Select the Degree Works option under the student menu.

  3. Review Your Worksheet
The worksheet will display completed courses, in-progress courses, and remaining requirements.

  4. Use “What If” Scenarios
Explore how coursework applies if you change your major or add a minor by using the “What If” function.

  5. Consult Your Advisor
Share your Degree Works worksheet during advising sessions for academic planning and scheduling.
