Summary

Zoom is Prairie View A&M University’s integrated web-based conferencing platform that supports high-quality video and audio. It works on MacOS, Windows, iOS, and Android devices, and it also provides dial-in options for phone-based audio conferencing. On campus, Zoom can connect to Smart Labs equipped with Polycom, Tandberg, LifeSize, and similar devices. This page provides essential information to help students, faculty, and staff access and use Zoom effectively at PVAMU.

Problem

Students and faculty often need to participate in classes, meetings, or office hours from different locations. For example, a student may have to join a lecture while away from campus, or a faculty member may need to host a meeting with participants both in person and online. Without a reliable, integrated platform, these interactions would be difficult and could disrupt communication.

Solution

Zoom at PVAMU provides a secure and flexible way to connect in real time. By logging in with PVAMU credentials, users can access licensed features for hosting, joining, and managing meetings. Whether joining from a computer, mobile device, phone line, or a Smart Lab, Zoom ensures a consistent experience across the Panther community.

Steps

Follow these steps to access and begin using Zoom at PVAMU:

  1. Log in to Zoom at PVAMU
Go to the PVAMU Zoom Portal and sign in using your PVAMU email and password. This ensures you have access to the university’s licensed features.

  2. Install the Zoom App (Desktop)
Download the Zoom desktop client for Windows or MacOS. Once installed, log in with your PVAMU credentials to schedule or host meetings directly from the app.

  3. Host a Meeting via the Zoom App (Desktop)
Open the Zoom client, select “New Meeting,” and invite participants using their email addresses or by sharing the meeting link.

  4. Join a Meeting via a Browser (Desktop or Laptop)
Click the meeting link provided by the host, or enter the Meeting ID directly at the PVAMU Zoom portal. This option does not require the Zoom app.

  5. Join a Meeting via the Zoom App (Mobile: iPad, iPhone, Android)
Download the Zoom mobile app, log in with your PVAMU credentials, and join meetings on the go by entering the Meeting ID or tapping the invitation link.

  6. Join a Meeting via URL Link
Meeting invitations include a URL link. Simply click the link to open the meeting in your browser or app.

  7. Use the Zoom Menu Bar
The Zoom menu bar appears during meetings and provides tools for muting/unmuting, starting/stopping video, sharing screens, managing participants, and accessing chat.

  8. Add a Meeting to eCourses
Instructors may add a Zoom meeting link directly into eCourses so students can access sessions from within their class portal. For assistance, contact the CITE Service Desk.
