Dialing Instructions Using Webex (Computer, Mobile App, and Desk Phone)

Intended Audience: Faculty and Staff

Summary

PVAMU uses Webex Calling, a cloud-based platform that integrates calls across the desktop app, mobile app, and desk phones. While users can make and receive calls seamlessly on all devices, dialing procedures differ slightly depending on whether you are calling a campus extension, local number, long-distance number, or international number.

This guide provides dialing instructions for computer (desktop app), mobile app, and desk phone users.

Problem

As PVAMU transitions from traditional VoIP to Webex Calling, users may be unsure when to dial 8, how to reach on-campus extensions, and how to handle domestic, toll-free, and international calls uniformly across the desktop app, mobile app, and desk phones. Clear, device-specific steps help prevent misdials and missed calls.

Solution

Use the Webex dial pad on your computer or mobile, or your desk phone keypad.

  • On campus: dial the last 4 digits.

  • Local/domestic/toll-free: dial 8 + area code + number (long-distance codes not required).

  • International: dial 8 + 011 + country code + city code + local number + #.

Steps

A) Computer (Webex Desktop App)

  1. Open Webex → go to Call (dial pad).

  2. Choose what you’re calling:

    • On-Campus Extension (Main, Northwest, Nursing): Dial last 4 digits.

    • Local/Domestic (e.g., Houston, Hempstead, Waller, Brenham): Dial 8 + area code + 7-digit number.

    • Toll-Free (800/833/844/855/866/877/888): Dial 8 + toll-free prefix + 7-digit number.

    • International: Dial 8 + 011 + country code + city code + local number + #.

  3. Press Call.

  4. (Optional) Use Move Call To… to hand off the live call to your mobile app or desk phone.

B) Mobile (Webex Mobile App: iOS/Android)

  1. Open Webex → tap Call (dial pad).

  2. Dial based on destination:

    • On-Campus Extension: last 4 digits.

    • Local/Domestic: 8 + area code + 7-digit number.

    • Toll-Free: 8 + toll-free prefix + 7-digit number.

    • International: 8 + 011 + country code + city code + local number + #.

  3. Tap Call.

  4. (Optional) Use Move Call To… to shift the call to desktop or desk phone.

C) Desk Phone (Webex Endpoint)

  1. Pick up the handset or press Speaker/Headset.

  2. Dial according to call type:

    • On-Campus Extension: last 4 digits.

    • Local/Domestic: 8 + area code + 7-digit number (no long-distance code needed).

    • Toll-Free: 8 + toll-free prefix + 7-digit number.

    • International: 8 + 011 + country code + city code + local number + #.

  3. Press Dial/Send if required by your model.

  4. (Optional) Use Call Forward to route all calls to voicemail when away.

Faxing (if applicable):

  • Domestic long distance fax: 8 + area code + 7-digit number

  • International fax: 8 + 011 + country code + city code + local number + #

Tips

  • Always use 8 for any off-campus call.

  • Long-distance codes are retired—dial directly.

  • Keep Webex signed in on desktop and mobile so you can Move Call To… between devices.

  • For international calls, don’t forget the final #.
