Guide to Seamless WiFi Connectivity with Passpoint on PVAMU Wireless Network

Intended Audience: Students, Faculty, and Staff

Summary

Prairie View A&M University is excited to announce the launch of Passpoint technology on the PVAMU CITE WiFi network, designed to make connecting to cellular data in areas with poor coverage faster, easier, and more secure.

Passpoint (also known as Hotspot 2.0) allows your device to automatically and securely connect to your carrier’s cellular network without repeatedly entering credentials. Once configured, your device will reconnect automatically whenever you’re on campus.

Solution

Passpoint uses encrypted, automatic authentication between your wireless carrier and the PVAMU CITE network. This ensures a secure, seamless connection experience without the need for repeated logins or manual configuration.

Steps

Who Can Use Passpoint

Students, faculty, staff, and guests with compatible devices from participating carriers:

  • AT&T

  • T-Mobile

  • Google Fi

Note: Verizon is not supported at this time.

Quick Setup Instructions

For AT&T Users

  1. Enable WiFi on your device.

  2. Open WiFi settings and look for PV-Passpoint.

  3. Select the network and follow any on-screen prompts.

  4. Your device will automatically authenticate using your AT&T credentials.

  5. Once connected, it will reconnect automatically when you return to campus.

For T-Mobile Users

  1. Enable WiFi on your device.

  2. Open WiFi settings and look for T-Mobile in available networks.

  3. Select the network and allow automatic connection.

  4. Accept any terms and conditions if prompted.

  5. Future connections will occur automatically when on campus.

For Google Fi Users

  1. Enable WiFi on your device.

  2. Open WiFi settings and look for Google Fi or Google Passpoint.

  3. Select the network to connect.

  4. Authentication occurs automatically using your Google Fi account.

  5. Your device will remember this connection for future use.

  • Automatic Connection – Connect once and stay connected.

  • 🔒 Secure Authentication – Encrypted connection keeps data private.

  • 📶 Seamless Roaming – Move across campus without losing signal.

  • 🚫 No Separate Login – Uses your existing carrier credentials.

Troubleshooting

If you don’t see a Passpoint network:

  • Verify your device supports Passpoint (most devices released in 2015 or later).

  • Ensure WiFi is enabled and airplane mode is off.

  • Forget other PVAMU networks and rescan.

If you have connection issues:

  • Restart your device.

  • Toggle WiFi off and on.

  • Check with your carrier to confirm Passpoint is enabled on your account.
