FAQs

How do I get access to Banner?
Please read the instructions provided on each of the forms, located in the Forms Library. Further instructions on how to complete the appropriate forms and how to route them for approval are included on the respective forms.

Is Banner available from home or off-campus?
No. Banner is only available from within the PVAMU network. However, you may access Banner through a VPN connection. VPN access must be requested through the Information Security Office.

Is the Office of Information Resource Management responsible for approving Banner access?
No. The office is the custodian of the process. Banner access is requested through the appropriate class/information owners. Supervisors should determine what level of access employees need and forward the request to the identified information owner for approval. Once all approvals are received, the request should then be forwarded to the Office of Information Resource Management for processing.

May I attend training without an account?
No. Training is hands-on and requires a login. New users should have a completed request submitted at least 2 days before attending training.

I am a new Banner user, do I have to attend Banner training?
Yes. Due to the sensitive data in Banner, all new users must attend Banner training. Monthly trainings are offered, and some departments may request to train their employees directly using the Training Acknowledgement form found in the Forms Library.

How long do I keep my Banner account?
Accounts remain active as long as the user requires access for their job duties. Accounts are terminated when users leave PVAMU or transfer to another department. Accounts inactive for 150 consecutive days may also be deleted.

How do I reset my password?
Your Banner username and password are the same as your PVAMU network account. You can reset your password by visiting pvamu.edu/passwordreset. If you still need help, visit Information Technology Services in S R Collins Room 126 with a valid photo ID.

What are Banner classes?
Classes are groups of Banner pages created by information owners. They are typically grouped by job role or function and assigned to users accordingly.

What are Banner pages?
Banner pages allow users to enter and look up information about individuals.

How do I see the names of these pages?
Login to Banner and search for GUAUPRF (General User Preferences Maintenance). In that screen, check the boxes to “Display Form Name” on the title bar and menu. Log out and back in again to see the names displayed.

I see different abbreviations in fields—what do they mean?
If you see an ellipses (…) in a field, click it. A pop-up window will display the valid abbreviations and their meanings for that field.
