How to Connect to the New PVAMU Wireless Networks

Intended Audience: Students, Faculty, and Staff

Summary

Prairie View A&M University provides multiple wireless networks to support students, faculty, staff, and guests. These networks are secure, encrypted, and designed to provide reliable connectivity across campus. Each group—students, faculty/staff, and guests—has its own designated connection method.

Problem

Sometimes users struggle with knowing which wireless network to join or how to stay connected. For example, a student may attempt to connect to the PV-FACULTY/STAFF network instead of PV-STUDENT, or a guest may be unaware of the self-service registration process for PVAMU-Guest. Apple device users may also face frequent disconnections when their devices go to sleep, leading to frustration during classes or meetings.

Solution

To resolve these issues, PVAMU has clearly defined which wireless networks each group should use. Following the steps below ensures quick and secure access.

Steps

Before connecting, identify which category you fall under—student, faculty/staff, or guest. This ensures you select the correct network and avoid login issues.

  1. Students

    • Connect to PV-STUDENT.

    • Log in using your PV credentials to access the Student PSK (pre-shared key).

  2. Faculty & Staff

    • Connect to PV-FACULTY/STAFF.

    • Visit the PVAMU Intranet to retrieve the Faculty/Staff PSK.

  3. Guests & Visitors

    • Connect to PVAMU-Guest.

    • Accept the university’s Acceptable Use Policy.

    • Register with a non-PVAMU email account and mobile phone number.

  4. Eduroam Users

    • Eduroam allows PVAMU students, faculty, and staff to connect securely at other participating institutions.

    • Visitors from other institutions can connect to PVAMU’s Eduroam network using their home institution’s credentials (must be configured on their device in advance).

  5. Troubleshooting Apple Devices

    • If your Mac, iPhone, or iPad disconnects when going to sleep, enable AutoJoin for the network.

    • This ensures your device automatically reconnects without manual intervention.
